Composition #72

First post in quite a while. I’ve been playing with processing and should be able to start generating images very soon (this is still flash). I did manage to abstract out the motion algorithm though which I think will make for some interesting new graphical patterns. Stay tuned.

Someone asked me why I use flash instead of processing to create these graphics. It seemed to him that this is precisely the type of thing that processing was designed to do. And he is correct. Processing is taylor-made to build a project like this. So why did I use flash? Because I know flash and Actionscript better and its where I’m most comfortable.

I actually do use a bit of processing, though. My epicycle explorer is built in processing and was very easy to build. Perhaps I’ll port the entire project over some day in order to take advantage of OpenGL rendering..

Some people have asked to see what a color map might look like unprocessed. Here is the color map I used for Composition #69.

I just discovered that in order to use a Mouse Event to initialize a navigateToURL() call, the HTML tags on your movie must have AllowScriptAccess set to always.

If AllowScriptAccess is set to never or sameDomain, the call will fail.
